PRSA Foundation continues tradition of giving back

Dear PRSA Members,

Recently I was elected president of the Richmond Public Relations Foundation, the arm of PRSA that awards two $1,000 scholarships annually to college students planning a career in public relations.

I was pleased to take on this responsibility because I have a passion for our profession and want to encourage and assist the next generation to attain their career goals. Also, since I have worked in higher education public relations for nearly 30 years, I have watched countless students achieve their dreams of a college diploma despite their financial limitations because of caring individuals who made a difference through selfless – and sometimes sacrificial – giving.

Each of us has an obligation to give back to our profession by ensuring that the most talented and qualified students have the opportunity to succeed. For some, this is done by offering an internship at their agency, nonprofit or business; others will serve as mentors to a student or young professional to help them navigate those important early career years. For those who are able, giving back can mean a monetary gift to the PRSA scholarship fund to help the “next wave” of professionals attain their dreams.

Our foundation is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization. One hundred percent of your gift is tax deductible.  I urge you to think about a donation to the foundation as you plan your end-of-year giving for 2010. You not only will be helping an individual student, but also giving back to our profession in a very tangible and important way.

If you can make a donation, please send a check made out to Richmond Public Relations Foundation and mail it to the foundation at P. O. Box 29232, Richmond, VA 23242. Or, if you prefer, you can donate online at prsarichmond.org.

Sincerely,

Linda Evans, president
Richmond PR Foundation
