On July 7, the starting flag dropped, the crowd cheered, and the first cohort in VCU’s Strategic Public Relations Master’s program roared off the line. Twelve fast-track professional joined experts in the field to confront the latest ideas in the industry – and create a few new ones in the process. The students represent the range of public relations area – agencies, corporations, non-profits and associations, and government.
The focus of coursework for July and August is Dr. Ernest Martin’s “Strategic PR in a Digital Environment” and Dr. Walter Lindenmann’s “Strategic PR Research & Evaluation.” In the fall, the track continues with Pam Lepley’s and Dr. Judy VanSlyke Turk’s “Strategic Media Relations,” Dr. Erik Collins’ “Public Relations Ethics and Law,” J.R. Hipple’s “Strategic PR Management” and a collateral course.
In the spring, coursework focus is “Organizational Communications,” “Strategic PR in the Global Environment,” “Strategic PR Campaign Design & Implementation” and the second collateral course.
Collateral areas currently include global marketing management, nonprofit management and environmental science.
Shortly before graduation, the group travels to Beijing and Shanghai on an international study tour.
Fast-track? Absolutely. The graduation finish line is May 19, 2007.

Early application deadline is December 31 with regular application deadline March 15. Classes begin on July 6, 2007 with graduation on May 17, 2008. Tuition and Fees for 2007-2008 (subject to approval) is $29,169 Virginia resident and $29,295 non-resident.
