Communicating with Constituents at the Local Level
With so many communications vehicles available today, it is becoming increasingly more challenging for city and county governments and other public agencies to communicate with constituents at the local level.
Please join us as we hear from Tammy D. Hawley, press secretary for Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones, as she discusses how the City of Richmond communicates with city residents as part of our annual Past Presidents’ Luncheon.
Prior to serving as press secretary to Mayor Jones, Tammy Hawley served as president and founder of The Hawley Group, a Richmond-based firm specializing in project management, community relations and event planning. The company handled projects for the city's Department of Social Services and Office of Minority Business Development.
Hawley previously worked as chief operating officer of the NAACP and executive general manager of Afro-American Newspapers Co.
Hawley’s federal experience includes serving as legislative assistant for former Congressman Parren Mitchell (7th District, Md.) and former Congressman William Clay (1st District, Mo.), and chief of staff for former Congressman Kweisi Mfume (7th District, Md.).
A native of Richmond, Hawley attended John Marshall High School and has a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Business. She also has training from the Executive Leadership Institute at Indiana University.
