“Crisis Communications: Managing a disaster”
Richmond, VA March 14, 2006 -- PRSA Richmond's upcoming lunch meeting on Wednesday, March 29 at the Sheraton Richmond West features Dr. Walter Green III, director and associate professor of the Emergency Services program at the University of Richmond School of Continuing Studies. He is in the business of managing disasters and teaching others how to manage them as well. He understands the critical need for clear and timely communications in time of crisis. One of his "teaching tools" is his ever-increasing global database of disasters, including Natural and "man-made" disasters.
Green holds a bachelor's degree from Duke and served in the U.S. Air Force as a command and control, disaster preparedness, future requirements and plans officer, ending his military career as deputy director for plans, U.S. Space Command. He earned a master's degree from the University of West Florida, an MBA in aviation from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and a Ph.D from Capella University. He was director of emergency operations for the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services, where he developed a state emergency medical disaster task force system that is recognized as being the most effective state-level medical disaster response system in the country. He also manages an online volunteer emergency operations center that supports government and volunteer agencies in disasters.
The program will be held on Wednesday, March 29, at the Sheraton Richmond West hotel, 6624 West Broad Street, Richmond. Registration for the luncheon program begins at 11:45 a.m., and the luncheon begins at 12:15 p.m. There is no lunch charge for PRSA Richmond members, a $15 charge for students and a $30 charge for non-members and guests.
