PRSA RICHMOND ANNOUNCES 2006 VIRGINIA PUBLIC RELATIONS AWARD WINNERS AT 59th ANNUAL EVENT
  • Top Awards include: Silver Best in Show - Housing Virginia (CRT/tanaka), Bronze Best in Show - Longwood University (CRT/tanaka)
  • Lou Anne Nabhan, APR named 16th recipient of Thomas Jefferson Award

RICHMOND – The Richmond Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, PRSA Richmond, awarded organizations merit and medallion awards, including Best in Show awards, during the 59th annual Virginia Public Relations Awards program. The event was held on Wednesday, June 7 at the Sheraton West.

There are two divisions of awards: Practices and Tactics. Practices are entire communication campaigns while Tactics are specific pieces of those campaigns. For 2006, “Blogs” and “Podcasting” were added as new categories. Multiple categories are included in the two divisions, but within the two divisions, each category may have only one Medallion winner and multiple Merit winners. The Medallion is the top award in a category, although it is not necessarily given in each category. Practices entries were judged for research, planning, execution and evaluation. Tactics entries were judged for planning and content, creativity and quality, technical excellence and results. The judges were members of the Portland Chapter of PRSA.

A highlight of the evening occurred when the prestigious Thomas Jefferson Award for Excellence in Public Relations was presented to Lou Anne Nabhan, APR, Vice President and Director of Corporate Communications for Media General, Inc. The award, presented only 16 times since 1975, recognizes extraordinary achievement by an individual working in public relations in the metropolitan Richmond area.

Before joining Media General in 2000, Nabhan was Vice President and Director of Corporate Communications for Reynolds Metals Company. Nabhan is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society for senior communications professionals in the United States and is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America. She served as president of PRSA’s Old Dominion Chapter in 1987. She has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Richmond Ballet for nearly 20 years, is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Richmond, and is a member of the Woman’s Club and involved in Leadership Metro Richmond. Nabhan is highly respected in the PR community by her peers, and a former colleague has said “Lou Anne truly is one of the pioneering women of Public Relations in Richmond.”

PRSA Richmond is a professional association serving Central Virginia public relations practitioners. The chapter and the national organizaton, PRSA, share the vision to unify, strengthen and advance the profession of public relations.
