Rising Star Award

PRSA Richmond’s Rising Star Award was instituted in 2010 to recognize an outstanding new member of the public relations profession. Rising Star recipients are practitioners who jumped into the profession with both feet—doing incredible work, seeking out learning and mentorship opportunities, and immediately looking for ways to get involved and give back.

The recipient of the Rising Star Award is always announced at the Virginia Public Relations Awards.

There is NO COST to submit a nomination and it is okay to nominate yourself. However, if nominating someone else, please remember the awards are supposed to be a surprise.

What do you need in order to nominate someone?
  • A 250-word statement summarizing why the nominee deserves the award.
  • The nominee’s current resume (allowed file types: pdf, doc, docx, rtf).
  • Headshot of the nominee (if available).
  • Up to 5 letters of recommendation (allowed file types: doc, docx, pdf).
  • Up to 5 supporting documents (allowed file types: jpg, gif, pdf, xls, doc, txt, ppt, zip, ps, rtf, eps, bmp, tif, png, jpeg, psd, ai, swf, pot, dot, docx, xml, mpg, mp4, avi, wmv, mov, css, html, js)

Selection Criteria

Individuals may be nominated by a colleague or may choose to self-nominate, and there is no fee associated with submitting a nomination

Rising Star Award recipients are selected by the same panel of judges that selects the Thomas Jefferson Award recipient. These are senior-level chapter members who remember what it was like to start out in the public relations profession. Past Rising Star recipients are also invited to serve on the panel.

The panel of judges is looking for candidates who display:
  • Early career successes that promise future leadership in the public relations field
  • Outstanding work with significant measureable outcomes
  • A commitment to the values of PRSA
  • Involvement in the community and volunteer service
  • Enthusiasm and initiative infused with a spirit of cooperation and teamwork
