The Director, Communications and Programs will be responsible for planning, initiating and managing the marketing, communications and public relations activities for the Association. The Director will focus on promoting and expanding Virginia Bio’s reach and impact via information and advocacy content (e.g. marketing materials, e-newsletter and alerts, magazine, digital communications, news and op-eds, website, and social media). He/she will plan the overall communications strategy, develop branding and messaging, and promote Virginia Bio and its programs across various media outlets including print, press releases, radio, television, direct mail, advertising, and the entire online realm of websites, social media (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter), and related portals. The Director will report directly to the CEO, and work closely and collaboratively with the other staff to achieve Virginia Bio’s targeted strategic goals.
A university degree and at least two (2) years of experience in marketing, communications, and/or public relations. A background with non-profit or non-governmental organizations (e.g. think tank, lobbying group, political organization, academic institution), especially member-based groups, is desired. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be an independent thinker who is able to innovate, produce and execute compelling marketing programs, often on tight deadlines and with minimal resources. A basic understanding of WordPress and graphic design is also desired. Writing samples will be requested.
